HELLO KITTY HAS NO MOUTH 3: TOKYO DRIFT, 2021
Part three of the Hello Kitty series! I hope sort of by this time that I’ve made my contentions with the conversation that AAPI and general media are having about representation. I think it’s a head count, and lacks substance--the characters that are being shown on screen lack depth, personality, and anything that would define them beyond being beautiful, quiet, and Asian. This could go on to be a comparison with the Dragon Lady archetype, but it’s a six-panel zine, ya know? Simply because a person is on the screen, does not mean that they are being seen and heard.
