TAOS ZINE FEST, 2023

After tabling the Las Vegas New Mexico Zine Fest, I figured that Taos should have it’s own zine fest! With the help of my friend Lua (@wonderharvest), we organized the first Taos Zine Fest!

It was held at Ennui Gallery on August 12, and we hosted a total of 10 tablers (including a community table featuring artwork by artists who don’t consider themselves zinesters, but have a small-ish collection of work they were interested in sharing). Some artists were local to the area, others from the greater northern New Mexico region, and one all the way from southern Colorado (how exotic!). I connected with these zinesters through a network of zine fest regulars, which I feel very lucky to be a part of now. Some were friends of friends, but others were artists who found our promo independently.

Throughout Taos, we were did outreach over local sites, with good ol’ fashioned flyers, and even had some radio attention on KNCE Taos. Apparently it worked! People who didn’t know I was organizing it, would bring it up in conversation, which was very exciting to hear that our promo was making an impression.

The turnout was beyond expectation! We had a good location with lots of foot traffic, but also other people showed up that day with the intention of checking out the zine fest. It felt right to connect with the community in this way.

Most of our materials were sourced locally and with the help of friends (tables, chairs, etc.), or made with our own materials (I knew that hoarding cardboard would come in handy someday).

Flyers, signs, and sticker pictured were made by myself!
