THE LOVERS, 2023
The two lovers are entwined in eachothers’ many arms, to the point where their bodies are nearly indistinguishable. In this blissful, but a bit nauseating if we’re being honest, state, their minds are still separate The redness and roses don’t need an explanation, but the red cords and Milky Way in the background refer to Chinese stories about true love (月下老人 and the Cowherd and Weaver Girl).
This is truly the reddest card I’ve made (so far >:) ), and what is challenging about creating this Tarot series besides interpreting the themes of the card (and not knowing anything about Tarot), is deciding on a final design. Some cards are easier than others, and I think I will eventually draw or at least doodle a different composition. The current drawing is based off of another sketchbook drawing (made in the same time as the Judgement card), and I think to an extent I wanted to complete that interpretation. Anyway! Maybe this deck will have multiple Lover cards is all I’m saying.
